We're Officially Effective

As of late, I feel anything but effective. Bryce, and thanks to Bryce, I too have been sick twice in only three weeks. Getting normal, every day tasks done is a challenge but getting insurance and related issues dealt with is a whole other kind of challenge.

BUT, as of today we finally have maternity insurance. It's nothing great (aka HMO) but it's so much better than nothing! I had to pick a new OB from the plan and schedule an appointment so that they can try to submit an authorization for coverage of the perinatologist here in Austin. The earliest they could get me in is Wed. morning and hopefully they'll understand the situation and work with us to make that happen. If all goes smoothly we may be in the hospital before the end of the week getting a cerclage put in.

If not, well - I just don't know. As my dad says, "We'll burn that bridge when we get to it."

Thanks everyone for keeping up with us!

p/s We're also officially into the second trimester - 13 weeks, 3 days today!  YAY!

  1. I'm feeling positive and going to take this as great news! Does this change what hospital you'll be working with? Wednesday of this week, like two days from now?

And go third trimester! And here's voting for all staying healthy for a bit.

  2. Third trimester...what's that? I kid ;-)

Not sure what hospital we'll be at, or really anything, until we hear what Scott & White has to say. Fingers crossed for not having to drive an hour and half to two hours for coverage!

And yep, two days from now!!!

  3. Yeah! Good to hear. One thing off the list and on to the next. Third trimester here you come!

  4. Temple wouldn't sound like a necessarily safe plan to me! Particularly if they put you on any sort of home bed rest because hours of driving doesn't seem like it would be good for the cervix. Fingers crossed for rationality.

Oops, I totally didn't notice that I'd typed third trimester. It is definitely worth visiting if at all possible! Though I'd say my first experience of it was much better than my second.

The OB trimmed me by a day, so I should be weeks changing on Wednesdays, but I keep sticking with Tuesdays in my head for no good reason.

  6. I think there are locations as far south as Round Rock? But I don't know if they have a NICU or what grade it is if they do.

  9. Hey not sure if you found a doc. But Clive Polon at St. Davids is who saved my life and Blake's and is a fabulous high risk doc! If we lived in Austin that is who I would go to. He hooked me up with my current peri here in Houston. 23 weeks tomorrow and going strong! Hope you are doing well girl! Janna Pokluda

  14. A lot of the OBs in Austin are all in one big group now, so you might find it easier getting into one with the HMO. Dr. Oliver at women partners in health is fantastic.
